Lovely song from the Dave Matthews Band
DRAFT:
If I were to have met you, and you were in the midst of youth
I would use the truest of hearts, to exchange your deepest sentiments
If you were to have met me, and I were still in my youth
I would have believed once that eternity was unwavering
If I were to leave you, and you have achieved peacefulness
I would rather put your heart at ease, less you have a worried heart
If you were to leave me, let me also pretend to achieve peacefulness
Even if broken hearted, let's also consider it as unintentionally (unwitting hearted)
Obstructed by time and space, not just limited by long long roads
Bounded by threads of passion, not just measured by the wind flown hairs
Why, the people of Red Dust and the material world, do our many emotions always bring about agony?
Once, the cloud was supposed to have transformed into rain, and give in to the sea's embrace
Yet it held its tears, let to wonder in solitude
Once, you were supposed to have belonged to me, and together we observed all of humanity
Yet we are no longer fated to meet, I can only resent that the world has changed (that the heavens had a change of heart)
No longer fated to meet, I can only resent that the world has changed.
Does anybody know why my audio tags don't get uploaded into the Vox Explorer?
Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Fearless [feathers] on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath (cont...)
One interpretation of the song is that life is so fragile and vulnerable, yet it's love that gives us courage to breathe. (Hence the baby in the music video, it symbolizes birth and unconditional love.) Unfortunatly both feathers AND fearless work with the concept. Ugh!
You might also recognize the song intro as the lead-in melody for House M.D.
So it was a pleasant find when I heard the song again on Out.Of.The.Ash.'s VOX site. Hmm, Napster lists Kim Richey as country, but she's also indie or folk. And she looks damn good for her age! But anyways, now I can't get the song out of my head. Well, it's not a problem for me, but I think my office-mates are about to conduct a Clockwork Orange style intervention just so I can sing something else around the office. I don't care, I'm holding their ears hostage until I find that damn easy button. I know there has to be one somewhere.

Someone once told me that the dream of every musical instrument is to create the perfect human voice. Well, the concept was probably rooted in enlightenment ideals, but I still agree that there is something beautiful and powerful about voice, whether it be songs or language.
My favorite song at the moment is Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek".
Perfect song for the end of summer, beginning of fall, when all the
undergrad are coming back to the university to start school. Total
nostalgia for making great friends and sharing wonderful times
together. Plus it's almost a cappella! How often do you hear pure vocals now?
Actually, I'm totally kidding, I have nothing against portable players. I'm just wondering why for someone who loves listening to music so much, I still don't own one. *sigh* I guess one of the things I am going to miss about not TAing this year is that I won't get to ask the undergrads what they are hearing and then go home to look up the songs on Napster. Especially now since I take the subway to and from work every day, plus hitting the gym daily. Maybe I should? The latter is a moot point, though, there is a flat panel TV on every one of those machines so I can get my CNN fix.
The mp3 market is pretty much hitting saturation point now, so I guess I belong to that hard-to-reach population left over when the exponential growth curve hits diminishing returns. I've not been living in a hole, though.... I am definitely in the market!
But I was riding the Subway last night, and despite all the talking, screaming, and industrial noise, I can still hear every one of my favorite songs in my head. Without the help of an mp3 player. The melodies, chords, harmonies all came through loud and clear. So I guess it was then that I decided that I will wait. I will waite for the perfect mp3 & video player / PDA / voice line-in recorder / digital camera / phone with 30 gigs of memory, slim design, excellent battery power, and at a reasonable price. Is that really too much to ask for?
